MUSKOGEE, Okla. – On day two the Bacone Warriors managed a split with Friends Falcons on Sunday, Feb. 3 at Warrior field.
In game one Friends halted the Warriors attack to two runs on two hits en route to a 5-2 victory over Bacone; Matt Elliot took the win for the Falcons after tossing seven innings with one earned run.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Will Simms scored to trim the lead to 2-1; later in the inning Kyle Pietryga knocked in Ricardo Barbosa to tie at 2-2.
The Falcons responded with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth in the 5-2 victory.
Tim Hill (0-1) took the loss for Bacone; he allowed three unearned runs in four and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts; Pietryga led the Warriors, going one for two with an RBI.
In game two the Warriors responded by pounding out 10 runs on 12 hits to knock off the Falcons 10-3 to move to 2-1 on the season.
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning the Warriors got their first run when Antonio Horn scored on a wild pitch; Barbosa and Enrique Meza also scored in the inning to put Bacone up 3-1.
Bacone picked up where they left off in the fourth inning when Horn doubled to bring home Pietryga and Jean Ortiz, increasing their lead to 5-1.
The biggest inning came in the fifth when the Warriors erupted for five runs; Ortiz got the inning rolling after singling home Simms, Horn later doubled to score Ortiz and Anthony Seabolt before coming home himself off a single.
With the offense rolling starter Jesse Fish (1-0) cruised to the victory; the senior tossed five innings allowed four hits with three unearned runs.
Reliever Alberto Pena finished out the game, allowing one hit in two innings.
Horn finished three-for-three with four RBIs; Ortiz finished one-for-two with two RBIs.
Bacone (2-1) travels to face Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.; they return home for a three-game home stand against Bethany (Kan.) on Saturday, Feb. 9 at noon.
