Bacone Warriors Track Welcome to Warriors Track
Since its inception in 2001, the Bacone College Track and Field program has seen a rollercoaster of highs and lows. In the fall of 2001, Coach Kevin Gordon began the program and finished third of seven in the first two seasons in the Red River Athletic Conference Meet (2002/2003). The next season the Bacone College Track and Field program won the Red River Athletic Conference Meet (2004); a feat that has not been repeated by any other team at Bacone College. However, following the 2004 season Coach Gordon left Bacone College and with him the success of the program. In the years following Bacone College placed next to last in 2005 and last place in 2006. In January of 2007 Shawn Venable took over the Bacone College Track & Field program as head coach. Coach Venable immediately brought life to the decaying program by leading the Warriors to consecutive fifth place finishes at the Red-River Conference Meet in 2007 and 2008. The success of the program culminated with the Bacone College Track and Field team winning the 2009 Men’s Red River Conference Meet. In the 2009 season alone, the Bacone College Track and Field program produced two Conference Champions, 24 All-Conference awards and seven Academic All-Conference honors. Additionally, the program yielded two national qualifiers for the NAIA Indoor championship and ten qualifiers for the NAIA outdoor championship. Going into his third full year as the Head Coach of the Bacone College Track and Field/ Cross-Country program, Coach Shawn Venable has already made quite an impact on Bacone College Athletics. With eyes toward the year ahead, the upcoming year looks to be substantially better than that of years past. In addition to 25 returning student-athletes, Coach Venable has recruited approximately 30 high quality incoming freshman and transfer students. With the combination of Coaching Venable’s coaching excellence and the great athletic ability of his student athletes, we should see some fireworks in this upcoming season. |
