MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Up by two with 1:57 remaining the USW Mustangs scored six straight points to lead the Bacone Warriors by eight, eventually defeating the Warriors by a final count of 92-83 Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Palmer Center.
In the first half the Warriors lead 21-20 after a made free throw by Sean Cooper; the Mustangs would score eight straight to move back in front at 28-21 at the 7:58 mark.
Bacone never regained the lead again but did tie the game at 71-71 with 5:04 left in the second half when TaMarcus Miles scored off an assist by Creed Flowers.
On the night Bacone connected on 50 percent (30 of 60) of their shots, hit six of 18 three-pointers but committed 24 turnovers; USW hit 44 percent (30 of 68) and gave away 25 turnovers.
In his first action of the season Jeremy McClain led Bacone with 15 points; Roland Barbaza and Kwame Bates both added 14 and Christian Smith chipped in 12 for Bacone.
Bacone (1-10, 0-6) squares off against Texas Wesleyan on Monday, Jan. 7 at home.
