May 11, 2012

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – In their first appearance in the NAIA National Championship opening round the Bacone Warriors split in games against Avila (Mo) and Lee (Tenn.) University on Thursday, May. 10.

In the opening game starter Justin McGee had his best start to date as he allowed one run while scattering eight in the complete game win; McGee improved to 4-6 on the year with the victory.

After the Eagles grabbed the early 1-0 lead the Warriors countered with four runs in the fourth; with the bases loaded Casey Gillespie drew a walk to bring home the first run for Bacone. Will Simms and Enrique Meza both followed with back-to-back RBI singles and Anthony Seabolt reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Gillespie.

Bacone tacked on one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Antonio Horn doubled to score Seabolt, moving the Warriors lead to 5-1.

Seabolt and Horn both finished one for four with one RBI apiece in game one.

In the nightcap the Lee (Tenn.) Flames jumped out early and held on en route to a 12-1 victory over the Warriors; the Flames scored three runs in the first inning off a three-run homerun which turned out to be all they would need.

Starter Eric Aguillard was charged with the loss; he allowed six runs on five hits in two and 1/3 innings of work; Adam Huizar and Johnson Kiska finished it out for the Warriors as they gave up six runs on six hits combined.

Horn finished two for four with a run scored; Seabolt also chipped in two hits in four at-bats.

Bacone (29-24) continues play on Friday, May 11 against  the Avila/Freed-Hardeman winner at 7 p.m. EST
