SHREVEPORT, La. – On day one of the Red River Athletic conference baseball tournament the Bacone Warriors fell just short 7-5 to Jarvis Christian on Saturday, Apr. 27.

The Warriors took a brief 2-1 lead in the third inning when Kyle Pietryga singled to score Jonathan Villela; Anthony Seabolt scored earlier in the inning off a wild throw.

Trailing 7-4 in the ninth Bacone scored one run with two outs when Tony Mendez hit a sacrifice fly to score Ricardo Barbosa; the Warriors threat ended when Eric Folkers struck out.

Wade Morten and Pietryga both collected three hits apiece for Bacone; Mendez finished two-for-three with two RBIs.

Taking the loss for the Warriors was Adam Huizar (7-3); the senior allowed four earned runs in four and one-thirds innings with seven strikeouts.

Reliever Alberto Pena tosses three and two-thirds innings, allowing two unearned runs in the process.

Bacone (35-15) will now face Texas College in an elimination game on Sunday, Apr. 28 at 11:30 a.m.
