Warriors Split with Graceland

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – In their first of two doubleheaders against Graceland (Iowa) the Bacone Warriors managed a split on Saturday, Feb. 16.
In game one starter Tim Hill (2-1) held the Graceland offense in check, allowing three runs as the Warriors rolled to an 8-3 victory.
Hill finished the day allowing three earned runs with seven strikeouts in the complete game.
Tied at 1-1 Bacone got their offense going in the bottom of the fourth when Wade Morten singled to bring home Tony Mendez; Jonathan Villela later came home off another single and Kyle Pietryga drove in two runs as the Warriors moved in front 5-1.
In game two, with the score tied at 5-5 Graceland scored in the top of the seventh inning to eventual hold off the Warriors by a final count of 6-5.
With a runner on second with two outs the Warriors’ Steven Smith flied out and Will Simms was thrown out to end the game, negating the comeback attempt.
Alberto Pena (0-2) took the loss, allowing one run and two and two-thirds innings.
Villela led Bacone at the plate, going one-for-three with two RBIs.
Bacone (6-4) faces Graceland (Iowa) in a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 17.
