Warriors Fall in Finale
November 16, 2013
WAXAHACHIE, Texas - Another rally by the No. 25 Bacone Warriors was thwarted by Southwestern Assemblies of God as the Warriors fell just short 38-34 on Saturday night, Nov. 16.
After the Lions scored late on a 26-yard touchdown from Reid Golson to Dylan Moore the Warriors received the ball at their own 25-yard line with 2:15 remaining, trailing 38-34.
The Warriors responded with a 10-play drive that eventually had Bacone face a second-and-goal from the five-yard line with 20 seconds left.
The would be rally ended there however, as Karl Birkenfield rolled out to his right and fumbled the football directly into a horde of Lions who recovered and ran out the clock to give SWAGU the 38-34 victory.
The senior quarterback finished 17-of-31 for 269 yards, three touchdowns and one interception; Birkenfield also led the ground game with 82 yards and two scores.
Larry Stokes led the Warrior aerial attack with five catches for 53-yards; Giorgio Walton led the Bacone defense in total tackles with eight.
Bacone concludes the regular season at 7-4 and 3-2 in the Central States football league.
