Lady Warriors Collect POW

WACO, Texas – Freshmen Aleia Murphy and Sylver Collins were named the River Athletic Conference Players of the Week for March 24-30. This is the eighth set of awards of the 2014 season.

Murphy, a freshman second baseman from Henryetta, Okla., drove in six runs and scored five times in a 4-2 week for the Lady Warriors.

After a fairly quiet start, she closed with a 5-for-7 outburst in the final two games of a four-game series with Texas College. In the second to last game, she accounted for two RBIs in a 17-3 victory before going 4-for-4 in the finale with a homer and three RBIs. For the week, she was 6-for-17 at the plate with three doubles and a pair of walks.

Collins, a freshman pitcher from Stilwell, Okla., earned two victories and struck out 17 hitters in 15 innings of work.

She tossed a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts to earn a 3-0 win over Texas College, and she held the Lady Steers in check again while allowing three runs on four hits in the 17-3 victory.

Collins is third in the RRAC with 52 strikeouts this season.
