Softball Splits with Southwestern

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Playing their first home game in nearly two weeks the Bacone Lady Warriors split against Southwestern College on Thursday, March 13.
In game the Lady Warriors trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth when Anela Granito-Wallace tripled to left field to score Lucy Walter, Rhiannon Bean and Kayla Bay.
Tarah Moutray followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to score Granito-Wallace as Bacone overtook the lead 4-2.
The Moundbuilders responded with three runs in the top of the fifth to again lead Bacone 5-4.
Bacone tied the game when Bay singled to score Kelsey Lamb in the fifth and then jumped back in front in the sixth after Kelli Costello tripled to score Moutray.
Southwestern responded with a solo home run by Audrey Vorderlandwehr that knotted the game at 6-6; the Lady Warriors couldn’t cross the plate as both squads entered extra innings.
After a three-and-out inning by the Moundbuilders, Moutray led off the bottom of the eighth with a single to move Megan Filanda to third with no outs.
Costello followed with an RBI single to give Bacone the 7-6 victory in extra innings; the senior shortstop finished four-for-five with two RBIs.
Moutray went four-for-five with one RBI.
Sylver Collins took the victory after holding Southwestern to one run in 3 1/3 innings in relief.
In game two the Moundbuilders jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and cruised to a 15-3 victory over the Lady Warriors in five innings.
Costello finished two-for-three with one RBI.
Bacone (8-16) travels to face Haskell Indian Nations on Tuesday, March 18 in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
